Moosonee Airport guide

Moosonee Airport (ICAO CYMO) serves the town of Moosonee, on the Moose River in northern Ontario, about 3.7 km north-east of the town centre. The airfield sits at an elevation of 30 ft. The Town of Moosonee operates it.

The airport has two runways. Runway 06/24 is asphalt and 1,219 m (4,000 ft) long. Runway 14/32 is 1,095 m (3,591 ft) long. It handles propeller and turboprop aircraft only, plus helicopters from two helipads beside the terminal. The airport opened in 1970 and the current terminal building dates from 1991. Transport Canada traffic counts recorded 23,981 aircraft movements in 2010.

Moosonee is the northern end of the Polar Bear Express rail line from Cochrane, and the town has no road link to the south. The airport therefore carries passengers, freight and medical flights for the James Bay coast. Air Creebec, North Star Air and Thunder Airlines fly to the Cree communities of Attawapiskat, Fort Albany and Kashechewan. Air Creebec and Thunder Airlines also serve Peawanuck and Timmins. Helicopter operators work from the site for the ORNGE air ambulance service. Schedules change by season, so confirm flight times with the airline before travelling.
