Fort Albany Airport guide

Fort Albany Airport (ICAO CYFA) serves Fort Albany First Nation, a Cree community on the south bank of the Albany River near its mouth on the west coast of James Bay in northern Ontario. The airfield sits beside the Fort Albany 67 reserve at an elevation of 47 ft.

The airport has a single gravel runway, 10/28, about 1,098 m (3,601 ft) long. The Government of Ontario operates it. A small terminal holds about 50 passengers, and a cargo facility handles freight.

The community has no year-round road. A winter road, open from January to March, links it with Kashechewan across the river, Attawapiskat, Moosonee and Moose Factory, so the airport carries most passengers, mail, freight and medical travel for the rest of the year. Air Creebec and Thunder Airlines fly to Timmins and to the nearby James Bay communities, and Air Creebec also flies air ambulance transfers to other points in Ontario and Quebec. Timmins is about 415 km away and is the main connection point to Toronto and Montreal. Schedules change by season, so confirm flight times with the airline before travelling.
