Cat Lake Airport guide

Cat Lake Airport (ICAO CYAC) serves Cat Lake First Nation, a fly-in Ojibway community on the north shore of Cat Lake in Kenora District, northwestern Ontario. The community is about 180 km northwest of Sioux Lookout, and the airfield sits next to it at an elevation of 1,344 ft.

The airport has a single gravel runway, 11/29, 1,208 m (3,963 ft) long. It publishes no passenger statistics. The Government of Ontario operates the aerodrome.

There is no all-season road to the community. A winter ice road links it with Pickle Lake for a few weeks each year, so the airstrip carries most passengers, mail and freight. North Star Air and Slate Falls Airways fly the route to Sioux Lookout, the regional hub for connections south. Schedules change by season, and small aircraft often carry tighter baggage allowances than mainline flights, so confirm flight times and limits with the airline before travelling.
