Chesterfield Inlet Airport Guide
Chesterfield Inlet Airport (ICAO CYCS) serves the hamlet of Chesterfield Inlet on the northwest shore of Hudson Bay, in Nunavut's Kivalliq Region. No road connects the hamlet to other communities, so the airport carries its passengers, mail and freight year-round.
The airfield lies about 1.9 km northwest of the hamlet at an elevation of 32 feet. It has one gravel runway, 12/30, measuring 3,600 feet (1,097 m). That length limits the size and payload of the aircraft that can land. The Government of Nunavut operates the airport.
A new air terminal building opened on April 16, 2025, replacing a terminal more than 40 years old. It has a larger waiting area, an indoor baggage area and wheelchair access. The Government of Nunavut and the Government of Canada split the cost almost evenly through the National Trade Corridors Fund. Calm Air provides scheduled service to Rankin Inlet, and Nolinor Aviation flies charters to the Meadowbank mine. The airport recorded 1,426 aircraft movements in 2010.
