Sandspit Airport guide

Sandspit Airport sits on Moresby Island in Haida Gwaii, off the north coast of British Columbia. It lies about 2.8 km northeast of the community of Sandspit, which had 310 residents at the 2021 census. Transport Canada operates the airport. In March 2024 the Council of the Haida Nation and the Minister of Transport announced a new name, K'il Kun Xidgwangs Daanaay, the first Transport Canada airport to carry an Indigenous name.

The airport has one asphalt runway, 12/30, 1,558 m (5,112 ft) long, at an elevation of 6.4 m. It recorded 4,419 aircraft movements in 2014. Scheduled service connects Haida Gwaii with Vancouver.

Most of the islands' population lives on Graham Island, across Skidegate Inlet. Travellers reach it by driving to the BC Ferries terminal at Alliford Bay and crossing to Skidegate Landing, a short sailing that takes about 20 minutes. The same ferry link carries visitors heading to Daajing Giids and the island's northern communities.
