Tofino / Long Beach Airport guide

Tofino-Long Beach Airport (IATA: YAZ, ICAO: CYAZ) sits on the west coast of Vancouver Island, inside Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. It lies about 11 km from Tofino and 30 km from Ucluelet on the Pacific Rim Highway, and it is the closest airport to Long Beach. Elevation is 80 ft (24 m).

The site began as RCAF Station Tofino, built from 1941 for coastal defence in the Second World War. It later served as a Pinetree Line radar station until 1958, then became a civilian airfield. Highway 4 to Port Alberni opened in 1959. Before that, the west coast was reachable mainly by boat.

The airport has three 5,000 ft (1,524 m) runways: 07/25 and 16/34 in concrete, and 11/29 in asphalt. GPS approaches serve all three, and the field can take aircraft up to a Boeing 737. Pacific Coastal Airlines flies scheduled service from Vancouver, and Harbour Air runs seasonal wheeled flights from Vancouver South Terminal. The regional district estimates about 20,000 passengers a year. A small terminal built in 2010 has airline kiosks, a waiting area, washrooms and vending machines. There is a car rental kiosk, Avgas and Jet A fuel, and free parking.
