Kirundo Airport guide

Kirundo Airport (ICAO HBBO) is a small airstrip in northern Burundi serving the town of Kirundo. It lies about 4 kilometres north of the town, on the north shore of Lake Rwihinda, at an elevation of 1,408 metres.

The airstrip has a single runway, 12/30, listed at roughly 1,000 metres with a grass surface. A non-directional beacon stands about 500 metres east of the runway. The Kigali VOR-DME, 64 kilometres to the north, is the nearest radio navigation aid of its kind.

Burundi's Civil Aviation Authority manages the airstrip. A logistics assessment of the country's airports completed in 2020 noted that the strip had gone a long period without use and that grass on the runway and its perimeter needed cutting before flights. The assessment recorded no guards, no fuel, no runway lighting and no air traffic control at the site.
