Gitega Airport guide

Gitega Airport (ICAO HBBE) is a small airfield on a low ridge in the north-west of Gitega, the political capital of Burundi. It stands at an elevation of about 1,750 metres.

The airfield has a single runway, 12/30, with a grass surface. Wikipedia lists its length at 990 metres, while other aviation databases give a longer figure, so the dimension varies by source. A non-directional beacon (ident GI) stands on the field. The Bujumbura VOR-DME, about 66 kilometres to the west, is the nearest radio navigation aid of its kind.

Burundi's Civil Aviation Authority manages the airport. Sources disagree on whether it is in regular use: one logistics assessment of Burundi's airports describes it as non-operational, while aviation directories list it as an airfield for domestic flights. No scheduled passenger airline service is documented.
