Bahrain International Airport Guide
Bahrain International Airport is located on Muharraq Island, approximately 7 km northeast of central Manama. It is the oldest international airport in the Arabian Gulf, with scheduled commercial flights beginning in 1932. The airport is managed by Bahrain Airport Company, a subsidiary of Mumtalakat, Bahrain's sovereign wealth fund.
A new $1.1 billion passenger terminal opened in January 2021, expanding annual capacity to 14 million passengers. The terminal spans 210,000 square metres and includes 24 departure gates, 6 remote bus stands, 44 immigration counters, and 22 e-gates. Gulf Air operates as the hub carrier, accounting for the majority of weekly departures. The airport handled 9.4 million passengers and 101,534 aircraft movements in 2024.
The airport has two runways and serves over 37 commercial and cargo airlines with connections to more than 72 destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. A separate Awal Private Terminal, operated by Hala Bahrain, provides dedicated facilities for VIP and private aviation passengers.
