Sofia Airport Guide
Vasil Levski Sofia Airport is Bulgaria's largest and busiest airport, handling 7.9 million passengers in 2024 and surpassing 8 million in 2025. It sits 10 km east of Sofia city centre and serves as the primary international gateway to the Balkans. The airport is home base for Bulgaria Air and a base for Ryanair and Wizz Air.
The airport has two passenger terminals. Terminal 1 is the original facility, now used primarily by Wizz Air, easyJet, and charter operators. Terminal 2, which opened in December 2006, is the main international terminal with air bridges and handles the majority of scheduled traffic. A third terminal is under planning with an expected completion around 2030.
Sofia Metro Line M4 connects both terminals directly to the city centre, with services running from the early morning until midnight. The airport operates a single runway (09/27) of 3,600 metres. The concession is held by SOF Connect, a consortium led by the French investment fund Meridiam, with Munich Airport International managing day-to-day operations.
