Barisal Airport guide

Barishal Airport (ICAO VGBR) is a domestic airport in Rahamatpur, Babuganj Upazila, about 12 km from Barishal city centre beside the Dhaka-Barishal Highway. It sits roughly 10 feet above sea level on 163 acres of land in the delta region of southern Bangladesh.

Construction finished in 1985 at a cost of BDT 4 million, and President Abdur Rahman Biswas inaugurated the airport on 3 December 1995. Aero Bengal Airlines was the first carrier to fly here. Between 1995 and 2009 the airport handled 158,987 passengers and more than 20,000 flights, counting passenger, training and cargo movements. It also supported relief operations after Cyclone Sidr in November 2007.

The single asphalt runway, 17/35, is 1,827 m (5,995 ft) long. Biman Bangladesh Airlines flies the route to Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport, and resumed weekly flights in April 2015 after a nine-year gap. The airport also serves travellers heading to the coastal town of Kuakata.
