Mount Hotham Airport Guide
Mount Hotham Airport sits at 1,300 metres above sea level on the Great Alpine Road, east of Dinner Plain in Victoria's High Country. It is Australia's highest-altitude airport and serves the Hotham Alpine Resort and Dinner Plain ski areas. The airport opened in June 1999 on Horsehair Plain, and its asphalt runway 11/29 is 1,460 metres long.
Regular passenger flights no longer operate. QantasLink flew Q200 aircraft from Sydney until 2014, and earlier seasons also had services from Melbourne, Brisbane and Newcastle. The airport now handles charter and private flights. Charter operators flying in include Yarra Valley Aviation, Australia by Air, Kirkhope Aviation, Navair and Southern Airlines. Typical flights take about 30 minutes from Albury or Canberra, 45 minutes from Melbourne's outer airfields and 50 minutes from Sydney.
Pilots flying themselves in contact the airport manager and submit an airport use request before arrival. The airport sells Jet A1 fuel. Passengers pay a charge on arrival and on departure. The Alps Link bus between Bright and Omeo can collect from the airport by arrangement, and a 4WD taxi runs to Dinner Plain.
