Adelaide Airport sits 6 km west of the Adelaide CBD, making it one of Australia's most centrally located major airports. Opened in 1955, it has been operated by Adelaide Airport Limited under a long-term lease from the federal government since 1998. The airport handles both domestic and international traffic through a single combined terminal that opened in October 2005, stretching approximately 850 metres end to end.

In FY2025, the airport recorded over 9 million passengers — its first time crossing that threshold — ranking it fifth among Australia's busiest airports. Domestic routes account for the bulk of traffic, with Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Jetstar holding the dominant seat shares. International operations have grown steadily, with Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and China Southern among the carriers serving international routes.

The airport has two asphalt runways: the main 3,100-metre runway (05/23) handles most commercial traffic, while the 1,652-metre secondary runway (12/30) is used primarily by smaller aircraft. A $600 million terminal expansion is underway to accommodate continued growth.
