Windorah Airport guide

Windorah Airport serves the outback town of Windorah in south-west Queensland, close to the Channel Country. Its ICAO code is YWDH. The aerodrome sits at 138 m above sea level, a few kilometres north-east of the town.

Barcoo Shire Council owns and runs the airport. It has one sealed runway, 04/22, measuring 1,374 m by 30 m. Runway lighting is available by prior arrangement. The council closed the airport from 11 October to 15 December 2023 for runway upgrade works. During that closure a bus linked Windorah and Quilpie on flight days, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service used the Ourdel Station airstrip.

Regional Express (Rex) flies the scheduled services, which run under contract to the Queensland Government. Rex took over the routes on 1 January 2015. They link Windorah with Quilpie, Charleville, Birdsville, Bedourie, Boulia and Mount Isa, with onward connections to Brisbane. Roads in the region are long and can flood, so the runway is also a regular landing point for aeromedical flights.
