Moranbah Airport Guide
Moranbah Airport (ICAO YMRB) serves the coal-mining district of the Bowen Basin in central Queensland. It is a private airport owned and run by BMA, the BHP and Mitsubishi coal joint venture, and a large share of its traffic is the fly-in fly-out workforce of the surrounding mines.
The airport has a single asphalt runway, 16/34, measuring 1,524 m by 30 m. A new terminal was completed in June 2012 after BMA put about AU$47 million into the terminal and a runway upgrade. The terminal handles roughly 160,000 public and charter passengers a year.
Scheduled flying centres on Brisbane, with QantasLink running Dash 8 Q400 services at about 40 flights a week. Cairns is also linked by scheduled and charter flights. Virgin Australia no longer flies here. Hertz, Budget and Avis rent cars from the terminal. Private general aviation aircraft must contact BMA's Airports Team for slot times and landing permission before arriving.
