Boigu Island Airport serves the community of Boigu, on the northern edge of the Torres Strait. The island sits only about 6 km from the coast of Papua New Guinea, which makes it Australia's northernmost inhabited island. The airport lies on the south-western edge of the village, a short distance from the homes it serves. It opened on 26 July 1981 as the Charlie Gibuma Memorial Airstrip, after construction began in June 1979.

The single runway, 09/27, was an unpaved strip until a sealing project began in 2002 and allowed all-weather operations. The Australian AIP lists it at 730 m. By 2002 six main aircraft operators used the airfield, with around 20 movements a week.

The airport is the island's main link to the outside world, carrying passengers, mail, freight and medical flights. Hinterland Aviation flies to Horn Island and Saibai Island. The 2021 Boigu Island Master Plan proposes night lighting, passenger facilities, storage, maintenance facilities and a car park, and a 2025 funding round awarded $7.5 million to apron upgrades.
