Barcaldine Airport Guide
Barcaldine Airport (ICAO YBAR) is a small regional aerodrome in central-west Queensland, on Myall Street at the edge of Barcaldine. The town sits on the Landsborough Highway about 540 km west of Rockhampton, and the airport is a short drive from its centre.
Two runways serve the field. Runway 01/19 is sealed and lit, 1,702 m long and 30 m wide. Runway 14/32 is 1,115 m long; its first 750 m is sealed and the rest is unsealed. The aerodrome is certified for public transport operations, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service flies in on a call-out basis.
Barcaldine Regional Council runs the airport. QantasLink has served the town with three flights a week, linking it with Longreach and Brisbane, though services were suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic and the council's current schedule should be checked with the airline. Airstrips have served the town since the 1920s, and the first scheduled commercial flight, a DC-3 on the Longreach to Rockhampton run, landed in April 1948.
