Milingimbi Airport Guide

Milingimbi Airport (IATA: MGT, ICAO: YMGB) serves Milingimbi, a small Aboriginal community on Milingimbi Island in the Crocodile Islands, off the north coast of Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. The island is reached by air or by sea, so the airstrip is the community's main link to the mainland.

The airfield was built during World War II by Aboriginal residents of the Milingimbi Mission for the Royal Australian Air Force. No. 83 Squadron and No. 457 Squadron RAAF were based there during the war. It sits about 3.7 km east-northeast of the settlement, at an elevation of 16 m.

The airport has a single asphalt runway, 11/29, 1,410 m long. It handles small turboprop and light aircraft. Airnorth flies scheduled services to Darwin and Maningrida, and Mission Aviation Fellowship links the island with Darwin and Gove. Charter, medical and government flights also use the strip.

There is no public passenger count for the airport. Facilities are minimal, with no parking operator, rental car desk or public transport on the island. Anyone travelling there should arrange onward transport with the community before arrival.
